Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters

  • Go trick-or-treating with a group of friends or family members.
  • Stay in well-lit areas and streets. Don't go into any stranger's home or car.
  • Only eat candy given to you by someone you know.
  • Be careful while crossing streets.
  • Wear reflective tape on your costume so drivers can see you.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow stick to see and be seen.
  • Tell an adult where you're going and when you expect to be back.
  • If you see something suspicious, tell an adult or call the police.

Halloween Masks

  • Make sure the mask fits snugly but comfortably.
  • Avoid masks covering your entire face, which can restrict your breathing.
  • If you are wearing a mask with a long wig, make sure it is tied back so it does not get caught in anything.
  • If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, remove the mask and take a break.
  • Do not wear a mask while driving or operating machinery.
  • Supervise young children closely when they are wearing masks.
  • Dispose of masks properly after Halloween.

Children Lost or Separated

  • Stay calm, and don't panic.
  • Look for a safe place to wait, such as a well-lit area or a house with a porch light.
  • Tell an adult or police officer that you are lost.
  • Give them your name and contact information, as well as your group's name and contact information.
  • Stay put until someone from your group comes to get you.
  • If you cannot find your group, you can also try calling them on your cell phone or going to a nearby house and asking for help.
